Chapter 9 - The Shack
âWeâve pulled off some risky shit these last few months, but this one takes the cakeâ, Franko whispers.
âIâm excited. It feels like my first real mission as a Guardianâ, Adorra responds with a muted excitement.
âStow it you two! Weâre almost at the dockâ, Chief Cole barks as he looks back over his shoulder at the large ferry boat full of âprisonersâ, some motionless and others rowing the boat.
Each of the soldiers in the boat has some sort of covering or hood over their head to obscure their faces. Even in the dead of night and in a storm, they know to be extra cautious.
âNow remember nobody move until I give the word. Hu-Ha?â, the Chief asks. Franko responds with a âHu-Haâ of his own followed by muted echoes of the same phrase from the rest of the disguised Shields on-board that are unfamiliar with the Crimson Cloaks ways.
As the boat drifts close to the waiting stone jetty Chief Cole pulls his crimson hood lower over his head and face then after a few tries due to the increasingly choppy waters the Chief tosses the mooring rope to the waiting Frost-blighted Silver who still appears normal. His transformation must be very recent.
âWhat happened over there?â, the Frost-blighted Silver Shield shouts over the growing storm winds.
âOver where?â, Cole says back without lifting his head.
âSentinel Point you old prick. That light-show. What was it?â, the Frost-blighted barks back as he ties the mooring line to a metal post sticking out from the surface of the jetty. Another two Frost-blighted begin shouting commands at the âprisonersâ in the boat and each of the latter begin to climb onto the jetty, forming a semi-circle around the Frost-blighted.
âOhâ¦.that? It was nothing, just a fire that got way too out of handâ, Cole responds.
The wind picks up and slams a wave into the jetty. The water drenches everyone on the dock, but the Frost-blighted seem unphased.
âBullshite that was a fire. It was bright blue! Whyâre you lying to me?â, the Frost-blighted asks as he grabs Cole by the front of his tunic and pulls him close. The action causes Coleâs hood to fall backwards revealing his salt and pepper beard and unpleasant expression.
The Frost-blightedâs eyes go wide with recognition. Cole is legendary amongst the Silver Shields and this Frost-blighted definitely recognizes him. Before he can act or even call out, Cole slams his forehead into the Frost-blighted nose. The sound of the crunch is enough to make a weaker person lose their lunch but Cole remains standing as the Frost-blighted falls backward onto its ass.
âYou must not have been Frost-blighted for too long or you would have been able to take that betterâ, Cole sneers as he speaks.
The two other Frost-blighted turn and begin to rush towards Cole.
âNow!â, the old Chief shouts and all of the âprisonersâ drop their coverings revealing a squad of Red and Silver Shields along with Franko, Adorra and Commander Kent.
âI must have been mistaken. I think that light you saw looked more like thisâ, Cole says as he steps aside.
